24 March 2020
Kia ora koutou,
With yesterday’s announcement by the Government, we are implementing with urgency our plan to support your child’s learning from home. We appreciate this is a sudden and significant change, and will be heavily disruptive to many people in our community. School will be closed from Wednesday onwards until further notice and we will endeavour to inform our parents via text, Facebook and our website about when we will open again. School holidays have changed to accommodate the lockdown and will now begin from Monday 30 March to Tuesday 14 April. Please makes sure we have your correct details so that we can keep you informed and you can update here.
Learning at home:
Our Home-Learning programme will be available online on our school site and we are providing learning packs to cover learners for the remainder of this school term. We will have class teachers supporting learners with regular updates on the class sites – of fun games and learning activities on class sites to work from home. If there is a problem with the device that has been sent home (student owned or TPS loan), FUSION Student Support Phone Line for any device issues, parents and students will be able to get get in touch with us by phone during business hours (8:30am – 5pm) on 09 801 2800. Please review the Kawa of Care agreement and make sure that all devices come back to school when school reopens.
Last pick ups
Our school will be closed by 3pm on Wednesday 25 March and whanau can pick up Home-learning packs, food parcels and chromebooks from school between 9.00 am to 11.00 am at the sliding door. If you are unable to come to school on Wednesday by 11am, then contact us urgently on 0800 527 6345 and we will arrange a drop off between 12 to 3pm.
Your child will be looking to you for guidance about being in a lockdown. Parents, caregivers, whānau and teachers will have a particularly important part to play in reassuring children at this time. If you haven’t already done so, you may wish to read the information put together by the Ministry of Education to support your conversations with your children published on our COVID-19 page on our website.
As noted by the Prime Minister these restrictions are our best chance to slow the virus in New Zealand and to save lives. We all have a clear role here to slow the spread of COVID-19.
We will continue to communicate with you over the coming days via our FB and website. Thank you for your ongoing support of our school staff and school community. On behalf of the school management, teachers and board, we hope that our students and whanau will be safe these holidays. Please contact me directly if you have any questions, concerns via email@example.com or email their classroom teacher for guidance.
Lastly I would like to thank all the staff and board from Tamaki Primary and Sommerville Satellite school who made the awesome home learning packs today and set up their learning sites online. They have all made learning accessible and fun through their hard work. Our students are so lucky to have an amazing team who gave up being with their whanau today to set up our students for success during this time away from school.
