Mālō e lelei!
Talamuka-‘a-Tonga is our Tongan Bi-lingual Y4-8 Class that started in 2021. Our local Church Minister opened our opening ceremony with a blessing of lifelong learning for students and staff. Dr Melenaite Taumoefolau (Senior Lecturer in Tongan Language and Pacific Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Auckland University) then provided a future-focussed speech about strengthening the learning journey of our Tongan students. Dr Rae Si’ilata also joined us to affirm our strategic journey for strengthening cultural competency of students and staff.
We were very happy to have been gifted the name Talamuka-‘a-Tonga which means ‘blossoming growth’ by the Princess of Tonga.
Our students are led by Mrs Luti Tafea (also our Senior Team Leader) and instruction is delivered 50:50 Tongan and English.
In 2022 we were delighted to have received the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) Pacific Education Innovation Fund to support Luti’s project inquiry and provide key literacy resourcing for the students. We’re super proud of the success of Talamuka-‘a-Tonga!
Entry criteria to this class can be read on our Enrolment page. You’re very welcome to contact Mrs Tafea if interested for more information.
Mālō ‘aupito!
